• Cusco & Machu Picchu
The city of Cusco, is the capital of the department homonym of Peru. It is located in the mountains, in the south of the country. It currently has about three hundred thousand people. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1983 by UNESCO.
It was capital of the Inca Empire and is considered the historical capital of Peru.
In the fifteenth century, the Inca emperor Pachacutec built a city in the clouds of the mountain known as Machu Picchu ("Old Mountain"). Machu Picchu at the same time is considered a masterpiece of architecture and engineering, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet.
Machu Picchu is on the List of World Heritage by UNESCO since 1983.
